Athenian Riviera

As soon as I buy my yacht (name Luna-tic, after my cat), one of the first trips I will make is to the stunning Apollo Coast of Greece, more commonly known as the Athenian Riviera. A “riviera” is a coastal region known for its mild climate, pristine beaches and glamorous resorts and spas. This particular area is also famous for what  “The Sacred Triangle of Antiquity.” The Greeks built 3 major temples each positioned at a point in a perfect isosceles triangle. The Greek mathematician & philosopher Pythagoras was quite fond of the number phi (1.618…) and the derivative Golden Mean, or Golden Ratio, so this is no surprise in this arrangement. See the second map below where I overlaid the Golden Spiral, illustrating how precisely these temples were positioned according to this formula.

This map highlights just a handful of the enchanting things to see and do, like volcanic thermal baths on Methana, visiting the feral cats on Poros, watching dolphins, lazing on one of the many beaches or fishing the Saronic Gulf for fresh seafood.
