In 2014 I traveled to Oregon (my first time!) as a journalist to join a trail repair crew working on a section of the Pacific Crest Trail. The purpose of the trip was to meet fellow volunteers who donate their time (and muscle ) camped out for a week or more in the backcountry wilderness at the base of Mt. Jefferson to perform trail maintenance, repair and restoration. It was an amazing experience!
I created this watercolor map to accompany the story I wrote, titled “Trailblazers” in the March 2014 issue of Country magazine. Click here to read the full article.
