This is an unfinished, early-stage draft of a large map project initiated in 2020, but unfortunately cancelled by the client. It was going to be an ambitious undertaking for sure, depicting the various conservation areas for biodiversity and development along the eastern coast of Mozambique. The Quirimbas Archipelago alone (at the northern region of the country) includes over 30 islands in a relatively unexplored and ecologically pristine marine environment. This map was intended to highlight various conservation areas on land and on/around the many islands, including mangroves, corals, swamps, dune coasts, etc. In addition to the map, I was going to illustrate a wide variety of native terrestrial (birds, mammals, butterflies) and marine life, like turtles, dugongs, whales, dolphins, rays, sharks, etc. I was sad to see this map project get sidelined, as it promised to be very fun and rewarding.
